Loading ...With so many dog and cat ear cleansers on the market, its hard to know which to choose. I was surfing the net and I came across Otiderm Ear Cleanser made by PHS. I like it because it is safe and effective for use on both dogs on cats! I have both so saves me the trouble of getting a different ear cleanser for each pet. My dog also likes to swim in our pool so this works wonders after swimming. Dirty, unhealthy ears can lead to nasty infections so I use this on my active pets regularly. Its better than having to go to the vet to treat infections and buy prescription ear medicine!

Visits today: 28There’s nothing worse than having fleas in your house. It’s not only a health hazard but annoying and embarrassing! My dog, Bruce, and cat, Skipper, are indoor/outdoor pets so they bring in pests sometimes (and the occasional dead gopher — thanks Skipper). Fleas and ticks are disgusting parasites that carry disease but can be easily stopped with the right flea and tick control medicines. I use K9 Advantix for Bruce and Frontline Top Spot for Cats. Both kill fleas and ticks on one medication. As for the house, I use Frontline Spray. Just spray those suckers (pun intended) directly. They all work great and I’ve only heard positive reviews.
Last fall I made a very common mistake. I made a very common mistake, thought flea and tick protection is only needed during the spring or summer. This is not always true. I found out the hard way after taking Bruce to the dog park; he had fleas! These pests can survive in warmer climates and in houses. Stopping flea and tick medication during the fall and winter can open the door for another infestation and disease. Don’t make this mistake and keep on the medications year round. Some people are understandably concerned about the cost. I find it’s cheaper to get pet meds and pet supplies online. There are great online pet stores that offer low prices on petmeds and supplies.
The other day I was looking for a dog toy to give my pet, Bunny, for her birthday but I couldn’t find anything. I searched several sites and found the same old toys in the same old colors. After about an hour of looking I was about to give up, but then I saw an ad for Otis and Claude. I immediately fell in love with the collection! Anyone looking for the hottest dog toys should look no further than the Otis and Claude collection! I’d give it 5 thumbs up (if I had that many)!

Even just the thought of my pets having worms is enough to give me the shivers. I was visiting my mom’s house a while back and I noticed that her Siamese cat had what looked exactly like a grain of rice near its ‘rear-end.’ That should have been enough to set off the alarm in my brain, but it took me half a second later when that grain of rice moved by itself to jump up and yell, “WORMS!” “Mom, did you know ‘Little Geester’ has worms!?” Luckily, I knew exactly what to do. I Gave the cat some Tapeworm Tabs for cats, and within a few days, she was cleared of all worms. The little rice grain I saw was actually part of the tapeworm, and this is very common for pets to have tapeworms. The most common way pets get tapeworms is, by ingesting fleas that carry tapeworm eggs. Shortly after we worked on the flea infestation. Otherwise the tapeworms will come. What I saw was only a small segment of the tapeworm that broke off, Tapeworms are usually six inches or longer. Once the tapeworm eggs are in your pet, they take root, by grabbing on with their six teeth in the small intestine, each rice-sized segment has its own digestive system and reproductive system. Nasty little creatures, easy to prevent. Once we found out that Little Geester had tapeworms, we didn’t want to pet her or even keep her in the house any more (we didn’t kick her out). We even started to dwell on the fact that we had my niece and nephew (3 and 5 years old) were over, and had played with the cat a few days earlier. The moral of this story is a pill once every 3 months goes a long way to keeping the pets healthy and the family safe. |

| My cat, Peanut, ended up with fleas a few weeks back. He’s still a kitten so I didn’t think they made a safe flea control medication. I did some research and found that Bayer Advantage for cats will work on kittens 8 weeks and older. I was so happy to find something that work on him. The fleas were driving us both nuts. I like how Advantage is also water-resistant, and continues to work even after shampooing. This is a huge plus because Peanut gets really dirty; he’s an indoor/outdoor cat. Another helpful product is Frontline Spray. It helped me get rid of the fleas infestation left in the house. |  |
One of the best toys out there for dogs is KONG Toys. My dog, Bunny LOVES these dog toys and I mean loves! KONGS are great because they’re bouncy, ideal for a game of fetch and can make any dog ready to play. They toy is ideal for keeping any dog busy. I find that the KONG Wubba works perfectly for entertaining my dog. One thing I like to do with the KONG toy is place her favorite treat(s) in the hollowed center; Bunny goes to town trying to get it. I bought a few varieties of KONGs; one that really works for oral health is the Dental KONG. The Dental KONG is cool because it holds treats and the groves on the outside help to “squeegee clean” my dogs’ teeth. Highly recommended!
“I’ve got worms!” That came out wrong. What I meant to say was, “I was assigned the pet worms and pet parasite category.” Worms are parasites that live off the host and are more common in pets than humans think. There are lots of different kinds of worms/parasites that can invade your pets. Here’s a short list of common parasitic worms:
- Roundworms
- Hookworms
- Tapeworms
- Whipworm
- The Dreaded Heartworms
Deworming pets should be a regular occurrence. Tapeworm Tabs for dogs and Tapeworm Tabs for cats by Trade Winds work very well and is very safe. Tapeworm tabs are also inexpensive. Keep those creepy, crawly squirmy worms away from your pets and use a dewormer! Now after you use the dewormer, your job’s not over. The primary vector for tapeworms (ie the way that your dog or cat gets infected with tapeworms) is the flea. So your pet gets tapeworms by accidentally eating an infected flea. To prevent this you will need to use a monthly flea preventive like Frontline, Advantix, or Program. Otherwise your pet is going to get infected again sooner or later. Here’s some other commonly used dewormers.
Those dark tear stains and licking stains around the mouth can tarnish your pet’s beautiful fur and really make your pet look bad. A great product I’ve discovered is Angels Eyes Tear Stain eliminator. It keeps your pets looking good. It removes dark stains around the eyes and mouth.
